Truck Maintenance Again

I have a 1990 Chevy Silverado. Garage (mine) is full. 2-bikes,Buick Electra 225, welders, Oxy-Acet. , etc. can't get truck in there which, either do this stuff in driveway or take it in. Need P255/70R15 performance radials (4). Front left tire is starting to cup on the outside,when I make a left hand turn the front end starts to shuffle a bit. Linkage? Have to get under and look.Probably need brakes , shocks (which are currently Gabriel- lifetime warranty) Have a rear oil seal leak which means ( drop transmission) This all translates into $75.00 an hour if I take it in. Anybody good at estimating ballpark money figures? It's still cold here 10 degrees not really wanting to lay on driveway and estimate. Need to get this stuff done for the long BTB haul. Speed.

I checked with Mcmahon tire.I have American Racing Mags. Firestone Firehawk SS20 $468.08($88.24Ea.) installed , not including alignment. I may do shocks and brakes myself. Still figuring.

Speed, too bad it is not a Toyota or Saab, I could estimate all that for those anf be very close.

The rear main seal depends on if the truck is 4x4(i'll assume it is) should be a 6 hour job in the 500-650 depending on extra parts needed.

It's rear Wheel drive - 2 What is labor now about $75.00 hr.? Dude , I usually do all my own Automobile, Truck whatever as long as I have a shop manual,no lift other than 2 1/2 ton jack and stands. I did that shit when I was younger..dropping transmissions out of some of my old ford trucks using the jack as a cradle while maneuvering on a creeper 'it was a bitch then that was 15 years ago, but to be honest with you I'm so burn't out on cars etc. I'm gonna pay to have it done , plus have the job sort of guaranteed. 714 mi is a long way to be blowin' oil out the rear end. SIEZE ! It's a drip now.....but I'm not gonna gamble. 5-6 hr job ?

Speed, according to my labor guide here at toyota it is a 3.6 to 4.5 hour job. labor should be based on 4.5 @75.00 337.50. While you have the tranmission out have the tailshaft seal and front pump seal replaced if it is a auto, if it is a 5 speed then just have the tailshaft seal replaced. that way you don't have to worry about those common oil leak area on chevy.

I'm hip,Tito. I've, in the past done all my vehicle repairs and not always by choice but by what was affordable according to my income and ability.I usually could never justify paying someone else to do something that I know I can do,with a proper service manual of course.These days I'm burn't out on vehicles , however, it was a little bit of sticker shock for me. I'm good to go now as far as I know. We will be saving for Petro now. I, personally am looking forward to this. Me needs a V A C A T I O N. Speed.

I found right and left front...Intake manifold (Gasket) coolant leaks , Trikling down the valve covers, I found it pooling in the back of the manifold. At first I thought it was the heater intake which was made out of pot metal. I got that out and tapped the hole and put a steel one in..... Now I'm back to square one again. :(

Speed do you have the vortec engine with the plastic intake manifold?

intake warpage was a problem with them. If that is the case then going with and aftermarket manifold like and edellbrock would be a little less in the replacement cost, but a big improvement in the power side.

The manifold is cast I think. You know what the problem is? Dex-Cool....Prestone Orange ! Great !

Actually , according to the Ace Radiator dude' theres some kind of class action suit going on about ..Dex-Cool ( Prestone Orange) Some have collected. You see most Chevy's come off the line with it. It also eats some kind of gaskets and silicone ,over time. Unless you have particular gaskets , etc. That my friend is right where I'm at right now.

Goes in the shop Tuesday. I'm almost sure this is it. Having them put a water pump on and serpentine belt on as well. Nothing like the last minute.
