crashed part 2

my son crashed his new 675 again, this time its a total loss
he ripped the entire front end off of it when he stuffed it under a steel guard rail
he lost the front end in some sand
he's OK again just some road rash and some weird colored bruises
he was wearing his "gear" but no boots so his ankles look like hamburger
I'l be parting out the carcass so if you know anyone who needs a motor with less than 2000 miles on it or misc parts from the motor back: give me a shout (no body work)
Oh yeah and he just told me that Performance Cycles has an 08 red 675 on the floor

First, I'm glad your son is okay. Second, holy crap! You'll have your heart in your hand each time this kid goes out for a ride. Let's hope the worst is over for him and that he enjoys safe riding from now on. I'm not implying he doesn't ride safely, just bad luck. Let's hope that part has past.

Have him take the BASIC MSF COURSE. Roads are still very sandy and salty up here. You have to be extremely careful.

not only a trend, but frequent.
this can be a dangerous business we do and after acting the fool myself for years...the only think that saved me this long is I grew up sliding sideways in the dirt...but that interval of incident speaks volumes.

you can't sit back and watch your boy die stupid at your expense...he needs some tough love here.

he's still pretty sore both physically and mentaly
we talked last night and he wants another one!
he cancelled his XM radio subscritption and earned over $100 in tips at work yestrerday
he bleives he can save $10,000 by the end of August for a new bike
pretty good for working at a carwash part time and going to college full time
he is however considering a Street Triple instead of a Daytona
I'd like to see him ride something "slower" for awhile and get some experience

he called his mother last night: she is pleased that he is not dead, me too

Obviously it's not our place to tell you how to raise your kid, but I agree with Hedge. If he were my kid, I'd tell him he can ride the Ninja 500 until he demonstrates skill and responsibility, or he can walk.

Besides, I expect that his insurance premiums after this might put him off buying another sportbike for the time being...
