Here we go again!

This time it is both rotator cuffs. They have been treating them for the last 15 months with cortisone shots and physical therapy. I thought maybe I could make it to next winter and get them done like I did my bone spurs on my feet. No Fucking Way! During the move I exasperated both my shoulders with the left one hurting even more than the right one.

So I went to the Surgeons office today and he shot the right shoulder up with another round of Cortisone and the left one gets an MRI tomorrow morning at 8:20am. I have scheduled surgery on the left for Friday morning June 6th – one week after the BTB. I guess this is the year that I get everything done with little motorcycling and little golfing! I will do the right shoulder as soon as the left one is healed. I guess other than the 2 shoulders I just have to get this fucking root canal finished and a new crown put back on!

Anyone have any experience with having their rotator cuffs done? I was wondering how long the sling time is? How long the PT lasts? How long until I’m good to go with each shoulder?

Thx - Hedge

don't know John
I had my left shoulder done about 3 years ago.
It was the rotator cuff and a torn tendon I let it go for about 2 years before I had
the operation. I let it go till I could not take the pain any more.
I was in the sling for about 2 weeks but, PT went for about 3 months.
It took around 6 months or more before I had my full range and strength back.

I hope he gives you some strong meds for the first 48 hours after the surgery.
The first 24 hours after mine I had never in my life experience that much pain before.
The meds he gave me did not do shit. I wanted to fucking kill him when I got my hands on him.

My right shoulder has been going for about the past 7 months now.
I am in pain every day with it, some days are worse then others.
I saw the same surgeon that did my left shoulder about a month or so ago and he said
I can get the cortisone shot any time I'm ready.
I also gave him a piece of my mind about the shit meds he gave me for after the block wore off.
He said they have changed the meds they give now to stronger ones.
I have no plans on getting the right side done until I can't use it any more at all.
I will wait till winter before I even think about getting it done.
Because it will lay you up for quite a while

Good luck I hope you have a faster recovery time then it took me. It may have taken so long
because I let it go for so long and I had a torn tendon.

I may go get the shot a week or so before the BTB.

Yeah I know, I had 2 of them before I had the surgery on my left shoulder.
The first one only lasted for about maybe 2 weeks but , the second one lasted
for a good month or more.
He /the doc. said you can't have the shot for at least a month or so before the surgery
because it dose some thing to the tissue where they can't stitch the tendon together.

Like I said before make sure he gives you some thing strong for when the block wears off.

I was up all night shaking uncontrollably with tears in my eyes because I was in so much
fucking pain. The shit he gave me I was suppose to take every 6 hours as needed
for pain ...... yeah Right ! ! I was taking them every 2 hours and I was still in
unfucking bearable pain.
It took around 36 hours before it got bearable.
Other then that I am glad I had it done. I will put the right side off for as long as I can.

Bill - the doctor is right! That is why he only shot my right and not my left. The left is the firat one done on June 6th.

Jimmy - I scheduled it for June 6th so that I would not miss the BTB. I think between the shot in the right and a nice pocket full of pain pills I should have no problems getting up there, riding and back down. So, don't worry my friend, nothing could keep me away save death itself! :D

Hedge,
I feel for you man. A guy at the gym and another guy I know had it done and it took one of them a good year to get back to normal. To go through that long a recovery, they (and you) must have beeen in some kind of pain on a daily basis.

Speaking of falling apart, yesterday I went "golfing" with buddies from work. I went only to get the hell out of the office. I went looking for my ball and stepped on a branch and heard this awful "pop" from my right calf. Shit! I can say "shit!" here right? Man, if this screws up my trip across country that I've been planning for as long as the Bennington Bash, I'll be one pissed off guy. Something tore. I'm walking like Chester from Gunsmoke. (Showing my age again.)

You may ask what I was doing near a branch when golfing, but that's another story.

Hedge, were falling apart. But I'm not giving in easily! Take care man.

If it sounded like a rubber band snap and you quickly looked behind you to see who hit you in the back of the leg with a lead pipe - than I know exactly what you mean. It happened to me on the subway in Hong Kong on my way back to the airport to go home. It was a pulled tendon. There was nothing to do except Physical Therapy. I think I was back in action inside of 2 months.

PS - just got back from my MRI so i'll know the damage either by the end of this week or early next week.

Hedge! I've only got four weeks! Two months is unacceptable. Shit again!

Good luck with the MRI readings. Let's hope you don't require extensive surgery.

The surgeon's preliminary opinion is it will be a simple scopic evacuation. I think I will be back in action real quick especially since my body phenomenally heals fast.

Matt - are you going to meet us somewhere on the ride up to Bennington? I think UncleCharlie and I will noodle out the first leg of the ride up to the ToyMakers where we will break for Lunch and then let Bucky take the lead from there. Anyway, we will post the complete route so people interested in traveling with us can get an idea of the route we are taking.
