New TOR for the Tiger

I'm finally putting the Triumph TOR on my Tiger tomorrow. It's in for the 6000 mile service and getting it ready for a long trip, so what the heck? Make a statement!

Hey, the only reason I'm doing it is it's supposed to run cooler. (Oh, and maybe a little louder.)

Still won't come close to the Bonnie's sound! Bennington, here we come.

Does it have to be re MAP with the TOR???

I have the TORS, BMC Air Filter, New MAP, 44 tooth rear sprocket (+2 teeth), adjusted suspension and more aggressive brake pads in the front.

I used to have TORs on my Bonneville, until the right one rusted out. They sounded good, but I wanted something a little more aggressive. Replaced them with Predators, which are a lot freer-flowing and louder, but the tone is deep and rumbly, not high and tinny like some of the other more open exhausts. They sound awesome. When I installed them, I also gutted my airbox and put K&N pod filters directly on the carbs, and rejetted accordingly. I still need to tweak the jetting a little -- when it's cool out, the engine hiccups occasionally at about 1/8 throttle. Probably a little lean on the pilot screw and maybe need to raise the needle slightly.

Other mods include entirely new suspension (Ikon progressive fork springs, heavier-weight fork oil, and Thruxton-length Ikon rear shocks, which raise the rear end an inch and sharpen up the steering) and more aggressive brake pads.

Just got back to the office wih the new TOR's on! Nice! Yes, Tito, it had to be remapped and there was a problem. After the new tune, there was no fuel indicator. We remapped it again and tried several things. Finally called Triumph and here's the reply, "Oh yeh, it comes back after you ride about 15 miles." It would have been nice if they let their technicians know this! It would have save a lot of time!

Anyway, it smooths out that flicky throttle and sounds great. I think it's a keeper.

So John, how's the TORs so far? Is it much louder at highway speed? What about around town?

Hey Matt,

Yeh, it's louder when cruising. If you like your bike now, I'd keep the stock pipe on it. I put the TOR on primarily because I heard it ran cooler and smoothed out some of the flicky throttle, which it did. I admit I'm like a little kid when I hear the burble when I throttle down.

These triples will never have the sound of your twins! But I'm getting some nice burbles out of this new pipe. (Plus the extra horsepower doesn't hurt. 124mph on Rt 140 on the way home. With that Vario screen and bags! Wow, I love this bike.)

I wouldn't mind a little more volume from my pipe-I'm just concerned about it driving me nuts on a long ride.

Yep, I'll give you that. The sound is a little more noticeable with the new pipe even with earplugs. If you're happy with the stock, I'd leave it for awhile. When we're in Bennington, we'll have to ride together so you can hear for yourself. I think if you took my bike for just a mile run, you'd know whether or not you'd want the TOR. (Please just don't drop it, I've got a long ride ahead of me!)
