Route help, Northern VT, NH and western ME.

After the Bash I'm planning on heading through the White Mountains, to York, ME. for Monday or Tuesday night. Can anyone tell me what roads they think "should not be missed"? So far I have no plan and have just started thinking about where I want to go. Any camping suggestions would be appreciated as well.

Jeff I ride western Maine alot. But not as much as the group called MEME.

Anyone there could give you great roads that I have been on but don't know the names or rte numbers.

I am planning on riding back Sunday/Monday depending if I goto americade sunday. I want to ride back through western NH to Western Me. My goal is to stop at the wild river in Bethel Maine to do some flyfishing and see some friends there.

I just want to get to York, ME. Monday or Tuesday night. Wouldn't mind discussing it over a beer in Bennington. When I can get away with out my family, I tend not to overplan.

A proper pint of guiness and route discussions for all, I say. Making plans without the family is difficult for sure. This one is extremely hard for me, My wife usually does the weekend long rides with me but she can not get time off for this one. If she got the time off then she wouldn't be able to enjoy the Western Maine European Motorcycle Meet the last weekend of July. it is a fun time and good rides.

Suggestion:

Take Rt 9 / Rt 202 East out of Bennington and head towards Concord NH. This is a very good road..scenery and what not. A few miles before you get to Concord you will run into I-89 that will take you to I-93 North. A few miles of interstate travel North to the Town of Lincoln where you want to take Rt 112 East to Conway, NH – Also known as the Kancamagus Scenic Byway which is the perfect mountain motorcycle run across and through the White Mountains. Plenty of camping opportunities along this road. Fill up on fuel in Lincoln.

Once in Conway NH, turn south along Rt 16...lead you out of the mountains to the coast and Rt 1 or I-95. Once your at the coast on either one of these roads, York is just a half hour north.

kingmoham 202 is nice, Kanc and the roads in northern NH are pretty awesome.

I would take 9 east to Brattleboro and go north on 5 to Bellows Falls then take the very twisty Route 123 to Antrim, NH which is on 202.

It would add a very nice small country back roads to the trip.

So far plan A is to take two or three days to get to York, ME., Plan B, skip York and tell relatives I never made it to Maine. Plan C is to camp around Stowe and spend two or three days in Northern Vermont. The main plan is to put in allot of saddle time and hit as many twisty roads as possible. I've heard the northern part of NH-118 is nice, as well as ME-26 over Grafton Notch. Thanks for your input.

I agree with Tonup. I should have thought about that when I posted...I was just over in Stoddard, NH which is the road you are talking about. We were up there looking at wood flooring and while on the ride, I kept thinking to myself that this road would be great for two wheels. Good call Tonup!

And rbcthlos, you're going to have a great ride while in Northern New England almost any way you choose to go.

B mason, So far it looks like I'm going to follow Ton Up's suggestion, then I’m heading to Loudon, NH and the Weirs. Up to Rt. 118 in West Warren, the Kancamagus, to camp somewhere between Conway and Gorham(maybe Crawford Notch). The route I’m looking at is about 250 miles to Conway. The only slab is to avoid traffic in Concord. The second day I may head north on 16 to Errol, down 26 to Bethel. Then return to the Mount Washington area or head to York. I would like to take a trip up the Mount Washington Auto Road, if the Mountain God’s smile upon me.
