WICKED cool, as they say in New England. Shoot, got three Triumph bikes in the garage now-where can I fit number 4!

No it's not, it's a stroked 675. Bunch of new parts, yes, but it's not an entirely new design.

Anyway, Triumph has a good track record, so I'm not too concerned.

How about the 2005 Speed Triple 1050 motor, considered the best motorcycle engine in the planet!!! I bought mine the first year out!

I was really hoping for a little more power out of the new 800 but I see what Triumph is doing they are making a bike that is user friendly for everyone to ride. Kudos!

Looks like a new Speed Triple for me if everything goes well!

Apparently there's a new regulation going into effect in the EU limiting a large number of riders to 95hp, so they built the bike to meet those regs.

I have a sneaky suspicion that swapping out the exhaust and downloading a new EFI map might have a pretty significant effect on power.

On the other hand, 94hp for an ADV bike is plenty -- and with the engine in such a mild state of tune, hopefully it'll get great gas mileage.

Just read a review-link on tiger1050.com-very positive. Looks to be complete right out of the box.

Here's the link for the XC model:

I'm not a fan of the new digital speedos, preferring the old school analog look myself, but that's a small quibble. Will these be decent for two-up, or are they strictly a one person bike? While I long to do more dirt road stuff here in the Adirondacks, I would also like to have a bike with more comfort for my passenger. My Legend is swell with just me on board, but not great two-up. I will probably have to buy two more bikes to get what I need, but such is life.
One more serious question: I find myself enjoying speed more and more, whether on the bike or in the car. 85 mph seems just about right for cruising, and I'm seriously not kidding. I haven't gotten a ticket yet, but I am finding speed to be rather addictive. The other night I rode from Glens Falls up to Keene Valley and back in 40 degree weather, and I rarely dropped below 85 the entire trip (my mileage reflected it). I see this as ending badly one way or the other. Any of you have any advice or suggestions?

A few speeding tickets will take care of the speed addiction. Don't ask me how I know...

One thing that's actually helpful is a small, slow bike -- oftentimes these give you that sensation of speed at much lower actual speeds. Ie, "it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow," etc.

As for the Tiger 800, word is that the pillion accommodation is actually quite good.

Here's another very good article on the Tiger 800 and XC:

Very nice read. The triple engine is such a tremendous selling point for all of Triumph's triple models. It will be interesting to see what they do with the Trophy when its new version comes out, especially with the new BMW 1600 looking so sweet (and expensive!)

By the way, what color are you getting, and what options are you having the dealer install?

I'll get orange or black (don't really care which) with crash bars, skidplate, and center stand. ABS too, if it's available without waiting for months.

I'll install my own heated grips (why pay $100+ when I can install better ones myself for $40?). Might add the bigger windscreen and Arrow pipe later.

That really is a beautiful machine. We've been getting calls already on the bike-seems to be a pent-up demand for this 800. Can't wait to ride one.
Triumph is doing a real nice job right now- The new Sprint GT is a great ride-I enjoyed my time on that demo!

US pricing's a little higher than I expected:

Tiger 800: $9999
Tiger 800XC: $10999

ABS is an $800 option on both bikes.

Check the MCN website. They are calling the 800 the "best adventure bike in the world". Pretty heady stuff right there!

I'll be seeing it in person in January. Triumph will be at the IMS show in NYC this year!

Yeah, but MCN has been in Triumph's pocket for this whole pre-release hype-building process. I won't discount Phil West's review out of hand, but I'll be very curious to hear if other reviewers back up his opinion.

I certainly hope so though, because I've officially preordered one.
