When do you plan on going up?
Marty and I are planing on heading up on Thursday morning/afternoon.
I am not sure what John is doing yet.
I will more then likely be making reservation for the Paradise some time soon.
It would be great if we could ride up together.

Hey Bill-
I'm riding up with you guys is my plan, let's hit the road early!

We'll have to practice riding together the weekend before with the MA BIA Meet.:)

Great to hear you plan on riding up with us.
The BIA meet sounds good, we will have to see who else you can recruit.
Keep in touch.

Well I am in for sure now.
I just booked 3 nights Thur, Fri. and Sat. night for a great price of $40.00 bucks a night.
It is 1/2 mile east on rt. 9 from the Greenwood camp ground.
They still have 1 room left as far as I know.
If any one else is interested Let me know and I will give you the info.

40 bucks a night! Billy, make sure the sign behind the trees doesn't say 'Bates Motel" cause if it does ya might want to rethink that one. LOL. I believe this is the year for anyone planning on a big trip (or any trip) cause it seems that all hotel and motel rooms are at a premium. The wife and I recently stayed over at the Newark Airport Marriot for 99.00 a night and that place is plush. Oh what will I do without pillows, TV, room temp settings and complimentary coffee? I know! I'll fog myself down with bug repellent and get hammered. There will definetely be stories to tell through next winter for sure.

I have been emailing back and forth with our newest member Kurt.
He lives in Bennington and he told me about the place.
It's called the Lake View Motel. He said it looks ok and he said a guy he works
with had stayed there and the guy said it was ok.

Hey how bad can it be, all I need is a place to shit, shower and a place to rest my head.
I was going to stay at the Paradise again but 40 bucks a night is a lot better then 70 bucks.

I will be doing enough camping this year, I'm thinking any thing will be better then sleeping
on the ground for 3 nights.
I know how cold it can get up there at night some times.
It would really suck if it rains. I will be hanging out at the camp ground most of the time
when I'm not out riding but I will be going to sleep in a nice warm soft bed at night.

I hear ya there Billy, I'm gonna do all I can to ensure a good nights sleep but I know from many years ago that camping doesn't lend itself well to proper zzzs. I think ya touched on a good point with the temp as I plan on bringing extra stuff just in case it turns colder than expected. According to weatherunderground.com we can expect between 40 and 45 on average for a low. I hope to be sleeping like a babe in my 30 degree sleeping bag at about that time. As for rain, I will be setting my tent up at home purposely to see if it leaks and even if it doesn't I'll be putting some of that seam sealer on just to make sure.
Hey, if your crew gets there before check in on Thurs. make sure to swing by for happy hour! It starts about the time everyone is crawling out of their tents and lasts all day! ^ ^ ^ ^

Hey Todd
I camp every year in the fall up in the Berkshire mountains.
The temps drop down in to the 40's at night. I have a great sleeping bag that's good
to 25 below.
The cold ground will still penetrate through.
What I do now is I use 2 thin roll up mats and they work great.
They pack on the bike easily and
they help insulate and add a little cushion at the same time.

But a nice soft, warm bed is much better LOL.

I have a thermarest pad that works pretty well. Of course I bet I could find room on the bike for a proper air mattress :D

Yeah I picked up Cabelasas version of the thermarest and will likely do a shake down of my gear by camping in the back yard. Don't want to get there and find out I'm missing something. Well, other than a few screws.

If you drink a lot more you wont need a thermarest or a sleeping bag! LOL

big agnes

Postby WhistlingFool » Wed Mar 25, 2009 8:44 pm

I bought a big agnes park series bag and insulated blowup do,... err mattress... the air pad is 2-3" thick when blown up and fits inside a sleeve on the bottom of the bag, so no rolling off the damn pad.. camping gear is CHEAP right now.. retailers are very very hungry!

What's the picnic table/bench situation there? I'll probably strap a folding chair to the bike... I suggest others do too! Mine has cup holders in the arms :D

I got all fancy and bought Kermit Chair... so my butt is covered!!!!! I figured two months on the road and lots of "free" camping, I will appreciate the luxury of having a $100 place to put my ass!
