I just got back from a 5 hour 100 mile ride to nowhere with the wife in the CT / NY back Country. I tried my best to get lost but just couldn't do it. We're back at home and took some nice hot showers, changed into nice clothes and going to finish the weekend off at my cousin's country club for a BBQ Buffet. Then back her for a movie and some well deserved sleep! 3 work days and a wake-up and we will get this Road Show Rolling! :)

Hedge,
I feel guilty with the ride I've had today after reading Mellow's posts. But what a spectacular New England day it was. No humidity and perfect riding temperature. I'm glad you and your wife enjoyed it. Topping it off at the country club for a BBQ doesn't sound bad either!

I opted for my favorite ride in Westport along Buzzard's Bay. Smiled the entire ride. I put the bike away and checked it all over for the ride up Friday. Lubed the chain and checked tire pressure and oil and checked some nuts and bolts. Looks good to go and I'll see you soon.

Rode 175 plus miles today in about 5 hours. To Bennington and back home.

I spent the day in the river fishing. Caught several Brown trout in the 10 -12 inch range. They were small but atleast I caught fish for the 3 hours I was in the 40 degree water. Much better than my salmon fishing trip friday night and saturday. Up at 3:45 to make breakfast, on the water at 5:00 off the water at 11:30, 2 bites - no fish. But had a very good time with my son. I feel guilty for not riding today. Sorry to let them momentum down on this.

I too spun around today in semi-exotic New Jersey - 102 miles. I would have tooled a bit more, but I had to disassemble my fuel supply for next winter [commonly known as splitting wood].

I rode past 'the mansions of glory on [my] suicide machine" Deal, NJ where the elite meet, and then down the Jersey shore before it got filled up with noo yawkas. A splendid ride indeed!

By the way, from what exit do I get off from the parkway for Vermont?

I'm trying to figure out who you are addressing this last piece of your post to because it will make all the difference in the world to whoever answers your question. If your talking about heading from NJ to CT and meeting up with us then you take From the south (New York)
Take the Merritt Parkway (rt15) north to exit 38.
At the end of the ramp, turn right on New Canaan Ave (rt123).
Immediately get in the left lane to turn left at light (around 100 feet).
Turn left on Nursery St. and go up the hill to 4-way stop. (1 block).
Turn left on Ponus Ave. it's the 4rth driveway on the right
(Less than 1 block).

You'll see an American flag 10 feet before the driveway,

My parkway exit comment is a too-heavily-veiled joke I suppose. The notion is that Jersey folk reference everything in its location to the Garden State Parkway. There is even a local rock band named Exit 63, or something like that.

Actually, I think I am going to meet up with Mglemans [MG and LeMans?] and tool up through NY.

I hope my NB Euro style lights get here today. It's raining, everyone is at work or school, and I have the day off. Good opportunity to put them on. If they do not get here, my alternate plan is to nap. Either way I like it. ;-)

It's an old Saturday Night Live Joke. "You from Jersey? I'm from Jersey! What Exit?"

While you are here, Hedge, I have always been curious about your signature line. I certainly believe that fucking a stranger in the ass has the potential to lead to all sorts of things, depending on who the stranger is, the circumstances surrounding the encounter, who else is there, etc. But what does it mean, what was Walter's concern?

Ahh! A philosophical discussion at last.

Yesterday I participated in a very poignant ride....a memorial ride in honor of a special friend of mine, Craig McLay, who died last Memorial Day. Craig and I got sober the same year (1986) and belonged to the same AA group- the In The Wind Group, sober biker folk...

I was with him when he did- we were riding together, he was taking me to a Native American burial ground out in Middleboro (we had run into each other at the MA BIA meet the day before, and had been talking about "sacred places" we had been to). He had a heart attack on his bike, went down and passed.....This may sound very gruesome, but it was an honor to have been with this man when he died- he was doing the thing he loved most- riding!-, on a gorgeous stone-walled, forested, twisty road. He died sober 21 years, and his passing was surrounded and led by the presence of his Higher Power.

Yesterday about 70 of us rode the ride he and I were taking last year.....Emotionally this was very powerful for me...Slowed when we reached the spot where he died- marked by a wreathed cross. Folks revved their engines and honked thier horns- he was very loved, was a unique character who had character if that makes any sense....We rode to a special spot by a reservoir, where the group stopped for a while and a few of us rode back to the spot for a quiet moment. We then rode along some gorgeous reservoir, passed the NA burial ground (after Craig's death, I went there and thanked Great Spirit for being close by to welcome Craig to his next place), and then another couple hours of backroads riding on a perfect late spring day.

The afternoon was a pigroast and gathering of sober bikers celebrating LIFE.

That sounds like a really good spiritual experience you all had. I'm glad that you observe the Native American thing it helps me never forget my first Sponsor from the 3rd edition "Join the Tribe" Maynard Bernard is attending the Big Meeting in the Sky with Craig right now!

Dave, see the film "The Big Lebowski" and you will understand Walter.
