Sounds good. I'm blacking out a few pieces this winter too. Seems the more I clean the chrome, the crappier it gets...

HOW MANY HOURS? Speed.

I had every thing apart in about 6 hours counting removing the air box.
I cut up the air box and reinstalled it along with relocating all the electrics and installing a set of air hones in about 4 hours.
I reinstalled pistons , cylinders ,head, cams , carbs ,exhaust, gas tank seat and side covers in about 12 hours. It took about 2 weeks to get the machine work done.
I have a set of Mikuni HSR 42mm carbs on the way WoooHoooo.
She is a totally different bike with just the 904 kit she is much stronger and has a lot more torque.
I had a bigO shit eating grin on my face the first time I took her out she really pulls a lot harder now.
I can't wait to see what she feels like after I install the Mikuni's from what I hear it
feels just like the feel of the 904 all over again.
She is going to be one Badass Bonnie come this spring.
I can't fucking wait to really let her go.

She will definitely take a bit to get use to all that power.
But when I see the opportunity to let it rip I will take it.
I just checked my email and I did not see any thing ....
wait It got sent to junk mail I just fixed it.

Yes I thought it was pretty funny too, the fucking kid was still shitting his pants
when I was pulling my first motor apart.
He's got a fucking answer for every thing.
I laugh every time I see it.
There are a lot of guys there that know there shit and then there are the guys who think they know fucking every thing.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know everything about bike. I do a lot of research and ask a lot of questions though.(I've been trained to do that;work- QS9000 Statistical Process; If I don't know the answer must find reputable source.) Have a Kawasaki 1980 550 LTD that sat in the garage for about 10 years , revived it , 4 years ago. Those 4carbs I had to clean the gum -tarnish off with an artists scalpel. It runs. Had lots of bikes when younger as I got older I began to drink a lot even married ( wife # 1)into a HD family who owned a Franchise here in the Summit city,Thats a story in itself,I remember wife #1 introducing me to her father, he came in the door with a Thompson Sub-machine gun locked and loaded, nothing about me, just the every day life of Crazy Father-in-law biker, He was once in a movie with Alex Kerris, He literally Rode a Harley through a train boxcar , both sides open ,Dude the train was moving ! But all through time they eventually lost their shop that their Dad started.. He was a Harley cop, Ironic isn't it. By one means....one chunk at a time........Blow, Dude. Lots of blow.Grandpa was old by then stayed inside let the Boys run the shop I Learned a lot about the inner workings when I was coherent enough, but mostly tuned in to cars because I drank a lot, easier to keep balance, you know what I'm talkin' about.I finally started getting back to bikes 4 years ago or so. Takin' up some schooling to refresh. It's better now, no Blackouts. Speed.

I checked out your 904 procedure on the Bonnie forum. It looks less involved than the stroker kit,not that it is any less tedious. I'm assuming this is a engine still mounted to chassis process.Great pictures. When you were cleaning the carbon out, what was the deal with the valve seat?

Hey Speed you're hijacking your own post.
I thought about doing the 989 stroker kit but, it is a substantial amount
of more work., time and money for what little extra you get over the
904 kit. I’m not sure of the exact numbers but I remember it not being much
they both have the same comp. ratio.
The stroker does involve pulling the engine out of the frame and
splitting the cases to get the crank shaft and connecting rods out
and there is a lot more machine work involved.
You can do the 904 for under a grand
were as the 989 kit will run you around 3 grand that’s doing the job
your self.
The valve seat could have been real bad. I was lucky I just touched
the lower edge of the seat the opposite side of the combustion chamber.
I could have really fucked it up.
Then I would have had to go with bigger valves but, again I was
very lucky I just touched it.
It still makes a tight seal. The head came out real nice after I finished
polishing the ports and re seating all the valves and putting in new valve
stem seals.
Bill

Thanks Bill.

I know. I may qualify as a Hooligan as well. I saw your Avatar post. Yep that sums it up for me. I posted in the forums before they split / 904 vs.988 or 9 and got some pretty good feedback but not as in depth in seeing and talking with your project. I bet that baby Screams. This will be next winters project, need to can a grand. Vermont - first and I'm sure that that will be better than a grand. Speed.
