Actually it is in a way. I just have to figure a way to ride the storm out because I know if I start somewhere else it's going to be for less money. In all reality 40 hr weeks are slowly working there way out of existence. You and several others just confirmed that for me. Will find a way to cope. Nothings ever easy is it.

it's the perspective.

when the stock market crashed in 29 and folks were losing fortunes and jumping out windows...there were guys who sold short and made a killing (borrowed stock on account to sell in high market, then when the market crashed, they bought cheap stock to replace the debt in borrowed stock).

there's money to be made in any economy if you can see the stuff no one else sees...the secret is find something you love, then do it with all your might...and don't listen to the devils.

the economy coming up will be high oil, so the answer is scooters...not motorcycles. with the hand skills you have buy the wrecks and rebuild them (complete with bugs in the teeth test rides) and sell and repair them until you can get a franchise and make the big money.

I see the luxuro (burgman and silverwings) for the shiney shoes and the stripped Ruckus-types for the working man...as cars are $20K and bikes are $10K and gas is $5/gal...the sweet spot is $3-5K scooters @ 70+ mpg...then you sell tires and brake pads and such..

we always complain about the illegal immigrants...use them...run down to Home Depot and pick up a truck load and make them your slaves.

that's how folks do it...climb on top of the pile...change the victim mentality to the alpha.

a guy made a fortune selling Pet Rocks to stupid people for God's sake...when the rocks stop selling, sell rock accessories to stupid people.

take a day off and get away where you can think...cut everyone off...and decide what you love to do...where your interests are...if it's dried flower arrangements, so be it...but find the center of you...then tighten the belt, and like Alice shrink to get thru the keyhole into the garden on the other side of the door...where you can expand to full size again where you want to be.

these footpeg brackets I made because my knees are shot are now 4 doz, sets in the US, 3 sets in Australia, 1 on Kauii, 1 in Finland, and 1 off to Athens Greece this AM. If I wanted to push this like a maniac it would grow big enough to eat me...but I'm retired...or so I thought.

we now have the internet and world access...use it.

make bike parts no one else makes...make a decent Bonneville seat that looks good and it'll fuckin' rain checks.

it's the mental persepctive where you need the medicine...and that starts with unplugging and shutting off the negative noise.

your answer is inside, not "out there somewhere"...everything "out there" sucks.

build a better mouse trap and they'll beat a path to your door...it's true.

start here:
>.I can Weld , Dad taught me ...seat covers and boat covers ...still have the heavy duty machine....Taking up some motorcycle school...can commercially paint...pretty good fixit man,

or even here:
find the pole in Bennington...put your heart into it, and pass the hat

doesn't matter where you atart, it all leads to something else.

Modre makes an excellent point.

Bike parts are ridiculously overpriced. $120 for a Thruxton seat cowl? It's a piece of plastic for fuck's sake! $200 for a skid plate for my V-Strom? It's a piece of sheet metal with a few bends and welds in it! $150-$250 for pannier racks for the V-Strom? The ultimate kicker has to be $400 for a set of rearsets for the Bonneville.

I've been thinking for a while that it would be possible to make a lot of money by turning out these kinds of products at more reasonable prices... and maybe also some higher-end customized pieces, for example a really nice Bonnie/Thrux cafe solo seat with polished aluminum cowl, with the taillight and turn signals frenched into the cowl. The problem is that I don't have the manufacturing skill to do it. I wish I did, because I would love to do that sort of thing on the side, and maybe even let it take over my full-time job if it turned into a successful business.

I hear you Modre. There is a lot of truth to what you say. Hell , the shop I work at was built by a ex- International Harvester employee turned entrepreneur , started out of his garage. Speaking of garages I need to get the Buick Electra 225 and the Buick Regal out of there so I can get Dad's machine in there and out of moms house. It's all in the doing, need to plan. I've thought about it for a long time. Need to plan and turn into action. I'll get it together . Speed.

Steve - I like many of the things that have been said here. I especially like what Jimmy and Rick offered up. I fall in line with these two as well. Please do not quit your job or change your attitude there. You need this financial stability for you and your family for now and into the future until the next better thing or idea comes along! As that idiot George Junior said, "Stay the Course"!
Steve - you get your meds if you need them, God knows between the high pressure of the financial sector and my cousin always yelling at me I have to take a 1mg Xanax at night before I go to sleep so I don't go into a fetal position with my hands clutched and knotted when I wake up. I'm very grateful for my job, there is not a lot of opportunity for a 50 year old IT Geek if he looses his job! So I show up everyday, keep an upbeat attitude, keep a very, very low profile and count my blessings one day at a time.

I'm hip Hedge, I'm going to stick it out. As they say , don't drink until your ass falls off, then if it does find a new way to sit down! I am serious about the upholstery( maybe moonlight) for now. Need to make some plans though.Yeah...Jimmy and I see things through the same eyeglass as well , you too.I'm not going to do anything stupid although at the time I posted this I was at wits end for a minute ,that's why I posted. All I can say is that I have some good friends here at the BTB forum , That's what it's all about and I thank all of you for encouragement. Sometimes things get tough and instead of boiling inside, I need to split that shit in half and talk about it. Like I said I'm grateful that I have a group of bike riding friends that have been there and back. I hear my pillow calling me and thanks Hedge. Chow-
