Robin to the helmet at 85mph!!!!!!!!

Have questions about the event or the area? Want to plan a ride in with others who are coming? Here's the place for it.

I spoke with a sheriff about it today. He came down onto a gaurd rail or something like that. You can picture it anyway. It is nasty to imagine the pain the other riders went thru.

Back to the helmet issue.........I don't want to put my head back in it and expect it to protect me. Jen says I'm being over sensitive to the impact-replace theory. I've seen helmets crack merely by dropping. What is the popular idea in this theory. Please be up front and honest. Would you continue to wear it knowing that it might stressed enough to fail in an accident. I know I can send it out to be tested but the cost is not that much less than replacing it.

If you think the helmet might be damaged too much to trust it, and it is your head going in the helmet, then by all means replace it, and ride with peace of mind. That is why we enjoy riding, after all, isn't it?

No reason you can't keep the helmet, study it, and possibly use it as an object lesson.

If you have any doubt, just replace it. It's not worth the torture you'll put yourself through thinking about it.

Brett,
I'd replace mine if it fell from my seat, so yeah, I think a high speed strike would justify a new helmet.

I want to replace the helmet to try to keep my mind at peace. However, the question was proposed to settle Jen's mind about replacing it. She did mention my life insurance policy in the same sentence as wearing the helmet.

Thank you for the input on this.

I've had two Vemars and thought they were a great bang for the buck. The only problem I had was with getting shields during a time when the importer was sort of fading away. I fthey are back in the US that's a good thing. Although now after two Suomys I'm pretty satisfied with them.

Brett, what shape is your head? Not only is mine a XXXL, b ut it's oval, not round. So lots of cheaper helmets, like Icon and HJC just don't fit well. Got a scorpion exo400 or whatever it is, love it! Reasonable price, lots of features too. Some day someone will make an XXXL helmet in a color other than black...

Benny, You could be major asshole while you wear it. lol Just set the bonnie to ludicrous speed!. Man I love Mel Brooks movies.

I wore the Arai helmet today. What an improvement over my helmet. It is so quiet compared to mine.
