4 Winds 41st Annual Rally

Beth and I attended the 4 Winds Rally last weekend, August 17-19. Wow, first of all I must say what a nice bunch of folks! We left VT on Friday morning and took the boring asphalt routes, I-87, I-84, I-81 to I-80 to Route 28. On the way there we experienced hail, wind, rain and a Tornado funnel in its infant stage. It was breathtaking up close and personally too close for comfort. We found shelter in a nearby store and were able to hide our bike next to the brick building. In about 20 minutes the sun came back out and we proceeded to a one-hour traffic delay. Total distance to the rally site was about 535 miles. We registered, set up camp and found the local beer store. We camped with some friends who we previously met years back while at the Finger Lakes Rally. Cold beer and a sore butt, life is good.

On Saturday we went riding around on some of the windy back roads in the Allegheny Mountains. Beautiful scenery and awesome roads! We rode about 200 miles and returned to the rally. For dinner we had a pig roast and during the award ceremonies Beth and I were awarded the “Two Up Long Distance award”! We were the only folks from VT. Cool! We then proceeded to celebrate a little more and headed to where the live music was. We received dance lessons (Cajun Style) and danced Zydeco all night.

On Sunday morning we said goodbye and thanked our warm hosts for their hospitality. A Great Rally! On the way home we decided to take all back roads and it rained a little. We then stopped for brunch at the great Wellsboro Diner one hour south of the Finger Lakes site and we will be going back, all home cooking and great Coconut Cream pie.

We arrived home one hour sooner and 30 less miles than expected all on beautiful back roads. I really want to return to the 4 winds Rally, Great folks, Great roads! It’ will be nice to sleep in our bed tonight!
