Creamic coating headers

Has anybody here ceramic coated the headers on their bike? I'm thinking of having mine coated black and am wondering how shiny they will be.

Ask Hedge or Mattrat they both had thiers done doesn't look to shinny from the pics posted here. Check the pics of your bike threads both posted.

Thanks. What about powdercoat? Will that work on header pipes?

I don't know how well powdercoat would work, but a lot of people just use black high-temp paint (such as barbecue paint).

Never give that a thought Mark or go to your local speed or hotrod shop and get a can of header paint .

Jimmy is correct. MattRat and I got our Headers, cans and clamps ceramic coated. You cannot powder coat exhaust parts because they get to hot. We powder coated many of our accessories and had them done in what is called bumper black. This would be the closest match to our 2006 & 2007 Bonneville Blacks. We had them done in Bridgeport CT for a very reasonable price. Here is a link to my report.

before I did the ceramic I had rattlecanned the headers and pipes - it looked ok, but there were 2 real issues that caused me to go with the ceramic:

1) had to touch it up near the kink every couple of days, as my boot would hit the hot paint and take it right of,

2) it smelled like burnt crap all the time!

Thanks for the input. I've decided to go with the ceramic coating. I found a place in Hartford. He said he has 2 different blacks. One has a little more shine to the finish. I'm bringing my pipes tp him this week.

Jimmy - the first thing you need to know about Ceramic Coating the headers and cans is that they need to be sand blasted first in order for the baked on ceramic coating to adhere correctly.

Gary knows Lenny Chiasson who owns Xtreme Temperture Coatings and drops stuff off to him almost daily so if you don't have a sand blaster near by you can send the headers, cans and clamps to Gary, he will sand blast them and bring them over to Lenny and Lenny will ceramic coat them and mail them back to you.

is G Force the place right next to the RR? if so the palce next to it does aluminum anodizing for Mossberg shotgun receivers, I wonder if they also do the work for G Force?

Doc - Lenny's shop is adjacent to G-Force and he can be found inside the store most of the time when he isn't anodizing or ceramic coating anything! So- yes you have the right place next to the RR. Great guy to deal with - Highly recommended!
